.I have been around, hunted with, guided with and lived with a lot of breeds over the years. They have included Goldens, Labs, Shorthairs, Brits, English Pointers and Setters.   Everyone of them had their place in my life and they all had their virtues.  They all also had their short comings, some minor and some that were just too much to handle.          There were dogs that were great in the duck blind who could handle the cold and ice and love every minute of it but had little interest in upland game.  If the interest in upland was there the very thing that made them great in the blind limited them in the field and made things really hard for them.   Then there are the pointing breeds most of which can cover two states in one afternoon without taking a break but will freeze to death in the duck blind and have little or no interest in waterfowl of the enviroment they live in.  There were dogs that were absolutley loves at home but wanted to make sure that you understood that you were not to act like you knew them once the two of you arrived at the field, they did not want to be embarssed in front of their friends.  And then there are the poor tortured souls that are so over bred (inbred, line bred) that are never at ease and are almost always neurotic.  Many of these breeds carry with them physical maladies which can leave them useless, dead or crippled long before they should be.  Every bred has its loyal followers and that is they way it should be,especially if that loyality is based on fact and the dogs can meet that indiviuals needs.
